Obstacles

So many obstacles can get in the way of keeping the focus on Why We Do What We Do. Once those obstacles start piling up, our mind stays averted from our true focus; the very thing that keeps us motivated to do what we do. I often wonder why it is that the jobs and the work that do the most good are often the most stressful. What are the obstacles that get in your way and how do you overcome them?

  1. Though the obstacles are many I recognize that my obstacles of staffing issues, funding cuts, not enough housing, too much to do too little time, to many expectations, etc etc. do not need to become the issues of those I serve nor do the issues of those I serve; addiction and drug seeking, unable to get along with others, curfew violations, etc. etc. need to become my or may staff's issues either. There is life beyond what we see and more to life than what we see. Knowing this helps and then life is full of surprise again.

  2. Obstacles are tough to get through and over. I'm not sure that if I knew that I was supposed to do the work I'm doing, I would actually be doing it. It's lawmakers who make our jobs less enjoyable because they don't see it as relevant. It amazes me that unless one is directly affected by a situation, it's not important, relevant or worth being addressed. What happens when one of these politicians family members need mental health services or become drug-addicted, etc. Although they may have the funds/means to help them, it hits home; then the ISSUE becomes globalized and included in campaigning. Sorry, just venting! I enjoy what I do because it's rewarding to me.

  3. I think the politicians who set the funding for those in need should be required to spend a few days with those in need of services. It would be an eye-opening experience and give better perspective.
